Tour de France: A History of Interesting Facts
The Tour de France is arguably the most famous cycling race in the world. Started in 1903, the TDF is currently celebrating it’s 100th race. There was no Tour held during World War I or World War II. With a rich history, the Tour has a ton of interesting facts that surround the storied race. The last time a Frenchman won the tour was in 1985, even though they have won 36 times. Four riders have won it five times, and the longest Tour in history was in 1926 at 3,570 miles. The current race averages more like 2200 miles.
